NetComm NB1300 Plus 4 NetSpace Branded
When first setting up the system I set the modem up in router mode to ensure that the connection could be established. This was done through the NB1300's web interface as per page 13 of the additional documentation that Netspace provides with the modem. Then I switched the modem to bridged mode and connected through linux pppoe.
Step one was to set up a second ethernet card in my slackware linux box. This is documented in plenty of other places and is fairly easy set up. I gave the interface an IP of "192.168.1.2" and it is "eth1" This allowed me to access the modems web bassed set up page from a browser. | Ethernet HowTo
Recompiled the Linux Kernel, I am using 2.4.26, to include the "Experimental" "ppp over ethernet". | Kernel Repository
Took me a bit of searching, found, compiled and installed ppp-2.4.2b3 |

I changed the operation of the modem to bridged mode, this is covered in the modem's manual as "ADSL Modem - Ethernet Configuration". The main thing to change, in the one page setup, the "Wan Type:" to "1483 Bridged IP LLC" and change the "Bridge mode" to "Enabled" I also removed the entries in the "Servername", "Username" and "Password" fields and deleted the "Static IP Address" and "Subnet Mask" Don't forget to click the "Submit" and "Save Setting and Reboot" | One page Setup

Apart from the time taken to do the research, that was about it. My linux box was the firewall system for my old modem dialup and now it is my firewall for my adsl dialup. I use iptables for my firewall, and use a very basic setup to allow for Masquarading. | IP Masquerade HOWTO |
